Balance testing can help your provider better understand your health. It can determine whether you have balance disorder, are a fall risk or even possible medications that could be causing the issues. Balance testing can help you better protect yourself from balance disorders or falls. Balance testing is currently offered at the Northwest Clinic Family Medicine Department, Main Clinic Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Departments, and the Specialty Center Orthopedics Department.

Most medical specialists will accept only referred patients. This is partly to try to ensure that the specialist you are seeing is appropriate for you and your condition, and also because Medicare pays higher rebates for specialist services if you have been referred.

Before seeing any medical specialist, it is always preferable to talk to your own family doctor, who can discuss your condition with you and advise on whether any specialist care is appropriate. If it is, he or she can help you to choose the specialist best suited to your needs. Your family doctor can help the specialist to care for you better by providing relevant information about your health. Communicating with the specialist will also enable your family doctor to care for you better during and after your specialist treatment.

During your initial visit, the doctor will explain the specific test or procedure you want, help you visualize the results and discuss the risks. He/she may do a physical examination and ask some questions. Once the test is completed, the doctor will decide what your diagnosis and the appropriate treatment should be.

Hospital Outpatient Services

“Hospital outpatient” refers to the billing process for services rendered in a hospital outpatient clinic or location. This is the national model of practice for large, integrated delivery systems where the hospital owns space and employs support personnel involved in patient care.

Under this model patients will receive two bills. One bill represents the facility charge and one bill represents the professional or physician fee charge. Previously, all services were provided by the physician office and charges were grouped together on your physician billing statement.

Depending on their particular insurance coverage, it is possible benefits may differ for certain outpatient services and procedures at hospital outpatient locations. We recommend patients review their insurance benefits or contact their insurance provider to determine what their policy will pay and what out-of-pocket expenses they may incur based on the location of the services provided.
